Execllent for over a decade
Date:July 21, 2011
Pros: no brassiness with their ash tone colors, more natural look than other colorants tried
Cons: can deposit too much color so set timer shorter
"Having worked with color for so many years it was a wonderful surprise to find Water Works over a decade ago.
It even works well on my own hair (Male here) and unlike so many colorants, if you chose an ash-shade, Water Works does not give you a brassy tone and does not strip hair (simply deposits color).
While it is classified as a permanent color, I find it does fade very gradually but I actually see this as a positive since there is more of a natural progression of the shaft from somewhat colored ends to newer salt and pepper roots (rather than the stark contrast of deep dye right next to raw root). When the color has faded --after a month or so -- I use my own applicator-tip bottle to touch up the roots and after some time I apply some of the remaining mixture to the rest of the strands for a freshened-up look.
The first time I used the product I used the entire amount for the full time in the instructions. The results-- though good--were much too dark for my needs. I've learned to adjust for this by using a shorter leave-on time (sometimes just 15 minutes for a touch-up) and I now choose a lighter shade than I would expect ( I buy Natural light brown to get a medium brown result).
This product rates the highest I can give it and I hope it will forever be on the shelf.

Stay Away from this Hair Color
Date:March 23, 2010
Pros: there are no pros
Cons: color too dark, damaging, patchy color, gren tint like a henna dye
"I purchased Water Works in the light brown shade. I used it the first time and have to admit that I was impressed. Although the color ended up several shades darker than the light brown shown, I was still happy with the results as it seemed to cover my grey...something few brands of color seem to be able to accomplish. After my first use, I stocked up to take advantage of the quantity discount...big mistake! I used this a second time which made the overall color even darker...by the third use, my overall hair color was almost black, but a patchy black...ahhhh! To make matters worse, the condition of my hair was coarse and brittle, even with all of the store bought colorings over the years, my hair had never been this dry and terrible in condition. The roots, where I left the color on the longest to try to cover grey, were the worst in both condition and color...ending up a combination of black with almost an ugly greenish tint. My hair was so brittle and dull in color, no shine or highlights at all. After a few washings and a clarifying treatment, all I accomplished was removing the color from my grey roots. I went for a hair cut to try to get rid of as much of this aweful color as possible and the staff was horrified by both the condition and color that my hair had turned. They would not believe me when I told them that I did not use a henna dye. I had as much of my hair cut out as possible and they suggested coloring all of my hair darker to try to at least blend the patchy color and the black/green left by the Waterworks color. Thank goodness they suggested that I try the Ion brand of hair color. I will never buy or use Waterworks again, it was the most damaging product that I have ever used on my hair. If you are thinking of using this product, I would suggest caution and talking to your salon first."

Make sure you have plenty of time
Date:June 12, 2009
Cons: takes too long to rinse out, not enough product
"Purchased this product in blue black. I was very disappointed because my hair is Not blue black it is black, also there was not a enough product. My hair is very fine and thin and is not very long. It takes two boxes to completely cover my hair. This product also takes a very long time to rinse out. I used 3/4 of a bottle of shampoo before the product was completely out of my hair."

Lovin' It For Years
Date:March 5, 2009
"I have been using Water Works for years. My most favorite outcome, beside the fact that it covers my hard to die gray, is that Water Works does not leave any residue on your hair. It feels smooth and silky - always. Hair dressers do not seem to appreciate a product that is easy to use and has no chemical orders, but it is funny that after years of use, my salon guy always says, "Your hair is in such great condition for your age." HMMMMMMMMMM Water Works, I love you!"

Great for Grey
Date:January 10, 2009
Pros: works
Cons: roots lighter than hair tips
"This is the only hair colorant that will cover my grey. You can regulate the color depth by leaving it on for the minimun time or add more darkness by leaving it on for the maximum time. I have been using it for going on 10 years now. I also touch up the roots in between using a cotton ball to apply a temporary rinse or mascara that matches."
