Worst Purchase Ever
Date:January 8, 2012
Cons: ruined my hair
"I don't usually leave comments, but my mom is a professional stylist and we have been using clairol for years. Recently they changed the product, and when I went to use it it literally destroyed my hair to the point that I had to cut most of it off. Even with a 10 volume developer it completely fried my hair. I usually have very resilient hair but this new formula caused so much damage to my hair that you could literally just pull the strands apart. Won't ever buy this again."

Really Disappointed in New Soy Complex
Date:January 2, 2012
Cons: burns scalp, color fades fast, smells really bad now, runny product
"I must say I am highly disappointed in the new Soy Complex. The Color does not last and it burns my scalp every time I use it now. It smells really strong and it is runny. I have used this product for many years I have to switch to another brand. Why did they change something that was already perfect? I will never understand."

Ash Blonde Goes Orange
Date:November 20, 2011
Pros: easy to use
Cons: ash blondes go orange, color fades
"Have been using the ash blondes for a while now and find that they develop an orange tinge to them about 3-4 weeks in. Then have to use a toner. Only shampoo a few times a week and makes no difference if use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner. The creme version does the same thing. Will try another brand."

Looks and Feels Great!
Date:June 4, 2011
Pros: does not leave hair feeling coarse, hair does not feel dry, color seems very true to hair swatches
Cons: smells more strongly of ammonia than other brands.
"I just finished using this product on my hair. I am very fair skinned, with dark features, and used 85N (Lightest Neutral Brown.) I am very happy with how everything turned out! I had previously used L'Oreal, but it left my normally fine and soft hair feeling very coarse for the first few days. Using Ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment after dying my hair did help, but it was still coarse. After using Clariol's Soyplex my hair was soft before I even used the Ion After Color. Needless to say I'll be buying this brand for quite a while. I will say that this product has a stronger ammonia smell then other brands I've used, so beware if that is something that bothers you. Overall a great buy for me!"

New Formula Too Runny
Date:May 31, 2011
"I have used the Clairol Torrids for several years, now they go and change the formula! I use Light Gold Neutral Blonde, and, as with Torrids, the 30 clear developer, plus Gray Magic (I am 98% gray).
With Torrids you use 4 oz developer and 2 oz color. When I tried this with the Soy4Plex, it was VERY runny, I had to wash out and throw the whole mess away! I started over w/2 oz developer and 2 oz color and it was better (my hairstyle is very short) but still a little runny. Not a happy camper. I just bought a new bottle of developer: Clairol Soy4Plex, 30. I am hoping for a better experience. Always scary when they go and change what works - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Not Bad
Posted October 5, 2011
This is the first ammonia-based hair color I've ever used. A couple of years ago, when I noticed my first gray hair, I wasn't too concerned. But I've been finding out that even though I have only a few grays (probably less than 1%), the ones I do have are VERY color resistant. I've tried several non-ammonia hair colors including, Clairol, L'Oreal, and an expensive Italian brand called Herbatint, but all with no luck! Revlon ColorSilk did work if I used an additive, like "Gray Magic".
Liquicolor is the first hair color that has stuck to my grays on its own! I was afraid to use an ammonia color, because I have very fine hair, but so far, I haven't noticed any dryness or damage. In that respect, it doesn't seem to be any different from the non-ammonia colors I tried.
Shade selection can be a problem, though. My natural color is dark blond, with a gold/copper undertone. In other brands, I had been using a 50/50 mixture of Golden Blonde and Neutral Blonde, but when I did a test of Liquicolor's Medium Golden Blonde it came out really red! I'm used to ending up with a lot of strawberry blond highlights, because of the copper in my hair, but this wasn't strawberry blond, it was auburn! I had to cut back to only 1/4 Golden Blonde, and if I buy this hair color again, I'll probably just get Neutral Blonde, and rely on my own hair to supply the gold tones. Also, Clairol's shade system is different from other brands. In most brands, Medium Blonde would be a Level 8, but in Liquicolor it's a Level 7 instead.
I might buy this product again. I plan to try a couple of other brands, but Liquicolor is definitely a possibility, if I don't find anything I like better.

"Amazing quality dye! Every color I try comes out true and natural looking. I have dark brown hair and use Clairol's 20v creme developer with Miss Clairol's lightest brown-medium brown shades. My hair always feels conditioned and looks healthy afterwards! My favs are Sunlit Brown, Iced Brown, and Sunset Brown."

Wrong color
Date:January 9, 2010
Cons: turned darker
"I bought Blondest Blonde, my hair already being naturally meduim blonde, but dyed light blonde. I wanted to match my roots. I mixed it w/ 20V and of holding it for 10 mins I already noticed that it has an orange tone, which I did not intent. This color went darker than my dyed and naturally all together with a tint of yellow/orange."

Miss Clairol
Date:August 3, 2009
Pros: comes in 62 shades most intermixable, line still features green based true ashes
Cons: the fragrance is terrible, final mixture is too runny to use with foil
"I am a natural 4N (light neutral brown) I have been mixing 1/2 ounce 71RG with 1/2 ounce 73RG. This creates a very soft sunny medium apricot blonde that is totally natural looking. I have yet to come across another line who offers this shade with or without mixing. Besides my formula there are countless possibilities considering there is a 62 shade palette with most of them being inter-mixable."

"this permanent hair dye is amazing! it makes my hair so shiny and soft, and the color is never brassy. this is important because my hair is a dark deep black color,so my roots are difficult to change. this dye makes everything simple for me!!! i reccommend this for everyone!! i even got my mom to use it, and she likes that it covers her resistant grey hairs very well."

Great Value for the Price!
Date:April 9, 2009
"I have used Miss Clairol Permanent Hair Color for years, always purchasing from Sally Beauty. This product saves me much, much money over salon costs and allows me to select the right tone for me. Of all of the Permanent Hair Colors I have used over the years, Miss Clairol is the safest, most conditioning of the colors. My hair is very dry and this product helps to protect it from damage."

Excellent Color
Date:March 11, 2009
"I've been using this product in various colors for the past 18 years. My hair turned gray early but I never wanted that to be my hair color---ever! A hairdresser friend showed me how to use the product, which is very eazy. I haven't paid a professional since, to color my hair. I combine two different colors to come up with my own fabulous color, which is RED OAK and LIGHTEST WARM BROWN. My color then looks like dark brown with red highlights. I always get complements and everyone says that it looks so natural. As someone else said, the color doesn't bleed, even on my white pillow cases. I will continue to use Clairol products, because they work, look great and aren't expensive. Thanks!"

Miss Clairol tried and true, recession proof
Date:February 17, 2009
Pros: easy to apply
"I started using Miss Clairol during my early 20's and never strayed.I got my first real job and started going to the hair dresser with my pocket full of money and had her do all the work for me while I sat back reading all the juicy gossip of who slept with who and who's that baby's daddy. While all the time she was using Miss Clairol tried and true. Now,in my (late) 40's I find myself working very hard and not being able to afford the luxary of a hair stylist. I have again started to do my own hair. Guess what. Miss Clairol has stayed very low in cost, has a beautiful range of colors and of course easy to apply.A mom,a wife,a grandmother, and still that hardworking women with a little cash in my pocket I read my favorite magazines from home,no driving and no waiting. I wanted to thank my freind Miss Clairol for all the years that you have stayed tried and true and recession proof."

Doesn't Turn Brassy!!!
Date:February 7, 2009
Pros: doesn't turn brassy, great price
Cons: none
"I have purchased just about every brand of hair color under the sun. I have medium brown hair that always turned brassy after coloring. I went to Sally's and purchased Clairol Professional 36D Moonlit Brown (Lightest Ash Brown) and am thrilled with the results!!! The color came out the perfect shade of ash brown. I will continue to purchase Clairol from now on. I recommend Clairol to everyone!!!"
