Pros: doesn't smell nearly as bad as other lighteners., lightens to light blonde/platinum wonderfully., has a thicker consistency and is easy to work with, doesn't drip
Cons: isn't meant as a color corrector as most find out.
"I freakin' love this lightener. I have naturally brown-black hair that was previously dyed jet black for years. I was warned against using 40 vol developer, but the Ion lightener&40 vol developer took (after a few processes) all of the black dye out, and lightens my natural black roots to near white in about 30-40 mins. I use this without toner to lighten friends hair before dying pinks, purples, and blues and it works sooooo well."

Amazing Product!
Date:November 15, 2011
Pros: sensitive, doesn't smell like other bleaches, works!!!
Cons: it is now an addiction, nothing is wrong with this product.
"So, I have very thin hair and have been so stupid to have been dying my poor, thin hair pitch black for approximately 7 years straight. I tried bleaching my hair when I was 2 years into that venture with the Beyond the Zone Bleaching kit and my hair literally fell out. You can imagine why I was so mortified of bleach, I am sure. I went back to dying it black because I felt there was no going any other color. Well, now I'm 21 and I want blonde hair! I am sick of having black hair all of the time. I went into my local Sally Beauty Supply and asked about 5,000 questions to the poor girl working. She was insanely kind and helped me through everything.
(THAT is the back story. HERE is the review.)
This is a great GREAT GGGRRREEEAAATTT bleach for thin hair. It is amazingly sensitive, it does not stink, it lightens just as good as the best of them. I used this along with the 40 vol. Ion developer. I know many people are afraid to use 40, but I was coming from pitch black hair. Of course my hair turned orange, that is always expected. So, I bleached it 4 times to get to that really ugly yellow color that bleach gets you to. (Yes, 4 times, and my hair WAS slightly damaged.) However, I still have hair, and a trim will pretty much take care of that problem. My hair survived 4 bleachings. I can't even believe it.
This product brought tears to my eyes, because I really felt that I was stuck having black hair forever. I know that's not a big deal, but for 5 years I have wanted to go blonde and hadn't had the chance because bleach is so harsh. This product gave me the ability to do this, and keep my hair. I will NEVER use another bleach. This is definitely the product for me.
After the bleachings, I toned it with Wella's T-18 and Ion's 10 developer because I didn't actually need to use the 20...
Now I have a great blonde color and I am completely grateful."

Great Bleach, tons of product!
Date:November 10, 2011
Pros: not very damaging for bleach, really is dust-free, tons of bleach---a value., lots of product., blue powder., works well.
Cons: none
"I couldn't believe it when I went into Sally's for bleach: this 16 oz (1lb) tub was only $2 or $3 more than the box bleach I normally buy, which only has 1oz of bleach in it. The product really IS dust-free, something that is usually promised but untrue. The bleach powder is also blue, which helps to tone the hair slightly (it doesn't tone. Blue just helps to soften brass).
The product did A LOT given the condition and color of my hair. I had hot pink hair, then bleached twice, dyed with ash blond hair, toned with Virgin Snow (it did NOTHING!), used purple shampoo, and finally bleached with Ion, mixed with Salon Care 30x developer. After, I toned with Wella toner.
The bleach did a good job, but toners ARE necessary if you're going for a white, silver, or "super blond" platinum look. I am going for platinum, but the Wella did NOT deliver that.
Back to Ion. It works great and was way less damaging than the Clairol I used before. :)"

"I used this with the Ion Color Brilliance 20 vol. developer and I really liked it.
It's a GREAT price and it lightened my hair MANY shades after leaving it on only about 30 or 40 minutes (my hair was colored jet black). It even came with a little scoop that measures I OZ so that helped a lot when mixing it with the developer. I still have a lot left over. I would buy this product again.

Scared to try
Date:July 6, 2011
Pros: good reviews, bad reviews
Cons: bad reviews
"I bought this a few weeks ago and have been afraid to try it. I don't want orange hair. I want to try it to put blonde-white streaks in my already blonde hair. The reviews are so mixed from "orange hair" to perfect and happy that I don't know what to think or do. One day I will get brave and try it."

STOP AND DONT BUY
Date:June 23, 2011
Pros: smells good
Cons: damages, fries your hair, doesnt work well, doesnt start to work until 30mins in
"This bleach is horrible. If you going from black box dyed hair and trying to get a blonde, STOP! Dont buy this. It took me 7 bleachs, yes 7 to get to a orange colour, so i could tone it to be white. just dont. It damages your hair alot, and youll hate it so much, youll go back to a dark colour so it doesnt look so damaged."

hey sweety.. first of all i just wanna say that if you aren't a cosmetologist.. u shouldn't be coloring your own hair. Thats why we all go to school and pay for school, its our job. Second it isn't the products fault for not being able to lift your hair color. Box color is not good quality, therefore high quality products aren't good to use on top of a box color. You should always go to your salon and have them do it, thats what we are trained for, and she/he could have helped you out by evaluating your hair. Next time don't do it on your own, and don't blame the product for not working, when its not the products fault.

You should have used a color corrector to take the black out first...I am surprised you have any hair left!

I hope you know, anytime you bleach your hair 7 times, you're gonna get damage. I'm honestly surprised you still have hair. Maybe you weren't mixing it correctly? I know I've had issues with hair because I didn't have anything to get an accurate measurement.

ion color brilliance bleach
Date:June 6, 2011
Pros: lightens exceptionally well, takes light brown hair to white in 45 min., used with 40 dev. for best results on roots
Cons: damaging, doesn't rinse right out you have to vigoursly wash
"I used this bleach on my light brown hair that had blonde highlights. I left it on for about 45 minutes, washed it out and it was like a yellowish color. I still had a bit of orange in it only towards the ends and i thought that toner would get rid of it but unforunately i used the toner and i still have orange in my hair, not too severe but i think i will re-bleach to get rid of it. I would say this bleach is very damaging even though it claims to have healthy properties in it. After one bleach my ends were pretty much fried they still are now but i don't have the extra money to go for a haircut and i have to re-bleach to get the orange little pieces out also. So, if you use this bleach i would expect alot of damage especially if you use a color right after bleaching. I would use deep conditioners and stuff obviously when you bleach unless its a really, really good bleach your going to have to deal with damage. To me, damage isn't too big of a deal i just deep condition my hair and whatnot."

GET THE TUB.
Date:May 23, 2011
Pros: roots turn out great, smells fine, great color, not too damaging, great for first time bleachers, texture
Cons: orange the first time you bleach, a little damaging, use it multiple times, have to get the tub
"I used this to bleach my own hair (with the ion 30 developer) and when i used the full head application the bottoms of my hair were orange although i had left it on for the maximum time. I go to a private school that doesn't allow orange hair so i got in trouble. But if you can live with orange hair for maybe a week before bleaching again then its worth it.(i used a lot of toner too, FYI) (this is why you should get the tub, so you wont have to go back and buy more)
I also did the roots with it and it turned out a beautiful light blonde that i barely needed to tone! With roots i had much better results because of the heat from the scalp."

Excellent lightener
Date:April 19, 2011
Pros: it works.
"I used this to bleach my hair to a lighter color. I was no going for blond. I had previously dyed my virgin hair to a chocolate brown, and it came out darker than what I wanted. I asked a relative of mine, who regularly dyes her hair what to do, and she recommended that I do the shampoo bleach method. IT WORKED. Unfortunately I didn't wait for my ends to process for 15 minutes, and then apply the product to my roots. The end result was pretty cool. My hair can out different shades of deep reds and medium browns. My roots did come out lighter than the rest, and brassy, but with my skin tone it works for me.
But as far as what the product is supposed to do, it DOES lightener your hair, and it doesn't damage as much as other products. I was also concerned about the smell since I live in the 2nd floor of a house and I have a 9 month old. Luckily my bathroom is adjacent to my back hallway which leads outside, so I just opened the door and put a fan on. My husband helped me do my hair and he said the dye smelled worse than the bleach.
Overall, it WORKS. Get it if its something you need. (Just make sure to condition)
BTW- my hair is past my waist and thick and when I mixed the shampoo bleach(this lightener) mixture I did 2 scoops of this, 2oz of water, 2oz of developer, & 2oz of water and it was enough to do my whole head."

Black to Blonde
Date:April 12, 2011
Pros: stays wet, easy to work with, easy to mix
Cons: pricey in canada compared to the website
"This was the first time I bleached my hair myself. In order to go from black to blonde, I had to bleach my hair 2-3 times. I used 30 vol developer. If you're going for a drastic change in hair colour, I would recommend doing a cap maybe twice.. just to get your hair colour lighter, and then go over the whole thing with bleach again. Keep in mind when you bleach dark hair the first time, IT WILL GO ORANGE. No doubt, it will be orange. Either stay at home for a weekend and then bleach it again 1-2 days later.. or you can bleach it right away after you wash it out (which I did before... and it was okay, but thats def not healthy for your hair). This bleach also made my hair two toned because my ends have been processed 2-3 times with permanent hair dye.. so DON'T bleach your roots or virgin hair the same times/amount that you would your processed hair. Check your roots every 5-8 minutes. All in all, I am happy with this product and would repurchase :)"

Ion Color Brilliance Powder Lightener 1lb. Tub
Date:December 15, 2010
Pros: tolerable smell, you don't need to use a toner afterwards, my hair still feels healthy and soft
Cons: burns the scalp, can't tell if it is washing out fully
"I purchased this lightener when it was on sale. It does smell like green apples... sort of candy-like. But don't try to smell it, it's still a powder bleach! It does really burn, especially if you add heat. It says in the instructions not to add heat... and if you are using it on your scalp to use the Ion 20 volume developer. I used Saloncare 30 volume and afterwards I needed to take an advil for the throbbing pain my head was experiencing. It is a blue color powder and my roots came out really light with no brass. My natural color is a 5 on the scale, so I'm not that dark but I still can get orangey tones from some bleaches. This bleach works well but DON'T add heat."

Pros: smells good, efficient
"I was very satisfied with this. I have used a lot of different bleach products and this is the I will be sticking with. It was strong enough to lighten the first time and my hair was previously colored. It also didn't fry my hair like other bleach products have done. The smell was also a high point. It's not over-powering bleach smell so my roommates didn't have to worry about opening windows to get the smell out."

What a difference!
Date:October 28, 2010
Pros: smells great!, works fast!, great value!, didn't pull a lot of gold
"I usually color my own hair. I used a bleach I bought at a grocery store, which damaged my hair and smelled horrible. I know the ladies who work at the Sally store near me, and they reccommended this bleach. I usually pull gold tones in my roots. I mixed this with a 30 vol developer (I have natural medium brown hair) and left it on for 10 minutes! I usually leave bleach on for 30 mins. After that I was almost white blonde on my roots! It didn't burn and the smell! Oh, it's wonderful. The only downside was that I bought the single pack and had to go back for more. I bought the 1lb tub for $12 on sale!! Best investment this month!!"

Great Bleach, Helpful tips for this bleach
Date:October 10, 2010
Pros: works beyond expectations, its super cheap, its lifts color very quickly, the color lift is amazing(took me brown 2 platinum
Cons: the smell is extremely strong, its super hard to wash out(conditioner helps alot), waxy build up(conditioner will take care of it), it gets extremly hot fast!!!!
"i bleached my hair about 2 months ago give or take, my hair was a dark brown i used this bleach it took my hair from that to SUPER BLONDE like almost a platinum blonde.
Helpful tips please read this bleach is alot different from other bleachs this is just a heads up for what to look out for.
Be VERY CAREFUL how long you leave it in i noramlly leave bleach in for like 40min to 50 min with this you prob only need 20, while i was waiting to wash it out it starting getting SUPER hot to the point where when i touched it, it burned my finger so when you feel it getting hot TAKE IT OUT ASAP, the only thing is after i shampooed it out it left a waxy build up like it made my hair clump together but once i put some conditioner in it went away so i recomend you have some conditioner near you
Pros:it works great, it works very quickly, its cheap, lifts hair color amazingly
Cons: the smell is EMTREMELY strong, Its SUPER hard to wash out, waxy build up, gets hot fast!!!"

Fantastic Product!
Date:August 19, 2010
Pros: gentle on hair no breakage, lifts color very quickly, doesn't leave hair orange/brassy, smells great no strong chemical odor
Cons: none!
"This bleach is overall just fantastic. I use with Ion Sensitive Scalp 30 vol developer, and takes me from level 5/6 brown to a level 10 very pale blonde.. not orange or brassy. Which I then tone to almost white platinum. There is no offensive chemical odor... It is VERY gentle on scalp and hair (had NO breakage whatsoever) yet does a wonderful job lifting..
I've tried several bleaches from Sally's in attempts to find an adequate replacement to my favorite Wella Wellite Cream/Oil, but that was discontinued, so since then I've tried L'oreal Blanc, love it but only comes in individual packets which is not convenient or cost effective, (considering how often I touch up roots) L'oreal Quick Blue, lifted very quickly but found it to be a bit harsh on hair. Also tried Clairol Basic White, which left my hair feeling like straw.
I will definitely be sticking with the Ion Bleach! Love this product!!"
