Disappointed -didn't get the desired results Date: October 31, 2009
Pros: easy to use -no mixing required, inexpensive
Cons: messy, stains skin and fabrics, only good for blonde hair, no results on med-dark hair

"I purchased the color "Not So Shy Violet" as well as the "Color JamZ Clear Shine" and after reading the reviews here, I was aware the color would be more blue than a true violet. Even so, I didn't get the color I had hoped. I have medium to light brown hair and the results were a purplish black. In my first attempt I didn't mix "Clear Shine" with the color, but just used the coloring by itself and left it on for 25 minutes and the results was just a dark purplish brown. I tried a second attempt by adding the "Clear Shine" to brighten the color to a brighter blue. When I got the desired color in the mixing bowel, I reapplied it to my hair and left it on for 10 minutes. The second attempt only darken the shade even more, so it looks almost black. In bright sunlight, it has an unappealing dark greenish purple color, that makes people ask "what's wrong with your hair?"

So if you're a blonde I assume you could get the desired effect and if your hair is darker then medium blonde, you would have to lighten your hair to a blonder shade as a base and then apply the coloring.

Aside from the failed attempt to color my hair, this product was MESSY. Although the product didn't color my hair blue, it did successful stain my hands, ears, neck, towels, sink, and shower blue. It also bled on my pillowcase and clothes. Word of warning...keep your gloves on when you rise the color out, I made the mistake of removing my gloves and it stained my hands blue which lasted two days.

If you're not a blonde, pass on this product unless you want to go through the trouble of coloring your hair blonde first (as a base) before using this coloring. If you don't, you'll risk having a dark egg-plant purple to black color, which is not worth the mess it leaves on your cloths and bed linen.

Color not as pigmented as expected Date: September 21, 2009
Pros: inexpensive
Cons: color not as deep as expected, color faded quickly

"I purchased Crimson Storm to color a highlighted section of my daughter's hair with.
First, I bleached the section very blonde, rinsed her hair, and then dried it. I then proceeded to apply the Crimson Red to the blonde section, which I then wrapped in foil. I left it on undisturbed for a good 20 minutes. When I realized that it didn't appear as deep of a red as I expected, I added a bit more color, re-wrapped the foil, and then applied heat via a hairdryer for another 10 minutes, for a total processing time of 30 minutes. After rinsing her hair, the color came through as a bright raspberry fuschia pink. It was pretty, no doubt, but the expectation was a deeper "blood" red, not a bright fuschia. From now on, I'll just stick with Manic Panic.

Totally awesome Date: June 6, 2009
Pros: inexpensive, good results
Cons: stains hands

"As a teenager, I LOVE to have wild colors in my hair, even though my mom doesn't. I also love to do my hair and other peoples', so I'm always on the hunt for good, inexpensive products to try out. I found this line of demi-permanent hair dye, and fell in love!

I've dyed my hair using many of this product's colors, and I haven't once been dissatisfied. I do highly reccomend bleaching your hair beforehand, or else it won't show as well, but it's very good. The longer you leave it in, the longer it lasts, though if you leave it in too long, you'll have to bleach it out.

Although, I would CERTAINLY reccomend this to a friend, in fact, I used it to dye my friend's hair purple. :D I think the only real downside is that it stains your hands so wear gloves!

If you don't take my word for it, here's photos of times I've used this dye.

I used Raspberry Kamikaze and Party Time PInk to mix the bright fuschia, and purple passion mixed with not-so-shy violet for the purple:

Love It!!! Date: May 1, 2009
Pros: cheap, lasts for a while, easy to apply
Cons: some colors stain the scalp, red doesn't last as long as the other colors

"I have been using this product since January, and I wouldn't use anything else. I originally went to Sally's to purchase Manic Panic, but bought this product instead because it is much cheaper. I have used Kamikaze Raspberry and Crimson Storm. I'm getting ready to buy Midnight Blue. All the colors work great and fade out to colors that still look excellent. I have extremely thick hair, but there was more than enough in the bottle to color all of it (I usually need 2). I streaked my hair with bleach before, but now I'm able to just apply a new color whenever I want. I apply to my entire head, even though some of it isn't bleached. The color slightly adheres to the non-bleached parts, but it washes out in like one or two washes. The color on the bleached parts stays from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the color and how long you leave it on. I will continue to use this product in the future!!! Great buy!!!"

Okay for it's price Date: April 9, 2009
Pros: cheap, many colors
Cons: patchy, colors are different from swatch

"I used this product in Tripped-up turquoise hoping it would turn out a lightish blue, but it actually turned out a seaweed-y looking green. Many dyes that claim to be turquoise usually turn out green-like, so if you're looking for blue from this brand, I would recommend the Huckleberry blue, which I have used and it somewhat turned out blue. The problem about this brand is that it doesn't take well and leaves patches. The colors turn out different from the pictures and the swatches, but I guess this is the kind of product I should expect for such a little price. I would reccoment Manic Panic because the colors are more vibrant and turn out better."

"About a year and a half ago, I decided to bleach out parts of my hair and i bought Crimson Storm. It stayed in my hair for a few weeks, and it works very well when you mix it with midnight blue(to make a neon purple). I got curious/bored when I mixed the colors.- It shows a dark red, but it actually came out a very hot pink.Either way,I really love this color and it's one of the few ones from Beyond the zone that I will buy again."

"Im naturally I pretty light blonde. I have to bleach my hair with ALL brands of hair dye when using non natural colors. But beyond Zone when cared for correctly takes better and lasts longer than any other color I have used. A few tips though if you want the color on the swatch or as close to, then you want to use a shade darker. I use Raspberry Kamikaze most, it takes a intense purply-pink for the first week then fades to a very nice hot pink, with the color lasting around 4-6 months with the end faded color being a soft pink. To keep your color vivid longer with ANY color do not wash with shampoo as often, if you need to cleanse use water and conditioner as it will not strip your hair. I only use actual shampoo once or twice a week depending on how dirty it is. Although I do not use product as a norm in my hair."

Keeps Me Colorful!!! Date: March 15, 2009
"I LOVE this stuff! I have been dying my hair all different rainbow colors for about 7 years now and this stuff is amazing! The wide selection of colors was really exciting when I first found this at Sally's. It goes on super easy and has minimal fading. Using heat really does help it last longer. Colors can be mixed to make new ones and the clear shine can "tame" wild vivid colors for the not so adventureous that want to try out something new and different."

Good, but not perfect. Date: February 22, 2009
Pros: easy, not messy
Cons: fades fast

"I have tried the following colors from this line:

Raspberry Kamikazi
Bubble-head Pink
Not So Shy Violet
Tripped up Turquoise
Clear Shine
Party Time Pink

Raspberry Kamikazi is my favorite color. It doesn't look anything like the sample swatch, but I like it.

Bubble-Head pink doesn't work with my hair. I usually mix it with Raspberry Kamikazi.

Not So Shy Violet is my second favorite. Again it doesn't look like the swatch but I like it that way.

Tripped Up Turquoise is useless. It looks like I colored my hair with a Crayola marker.

Clear shine is also useless. It just makes my hair look like I dipped it in grease.

Party Time pink is just OK. It creates the same color that I get by mixing Raspberry and Bubble-head except it fades faster.

Overall I prefer Color Jamz slightly more than Manic Panic because it is cheaper and less messy. The Manic Panic colors are more vibrant, though.

"Our family loves the beyond zone hair coloring. I have three boys with mohawks, who like to change the color all the time. We buy the beyond zone because of the great colors and it lasts until they want to change it again. We also buy the clear shine with it to help keep the vibrant color, (which I highly recommend)"

"I love this haircolor because it's very easy to apply. There is no mixing required. You can just pour it right out of the bottle. The ending result you get from this color is great also. The color is very vibrant and intense. I dyed my hair pink using this color and was completely satisfied with my hair. The color doesn't damage your hair as bad as normal hair color would either. I would recommend this hair color to anyone desiring an intense, easy to apply hair color."

Pros: love the flexability

"This is one of the best hair colors systems that i have used. I had to play with each color to determine how much time was needed. I have found that it last up to at least three months that way. But i do change my mind on my color a lot so i love to switch it up and mix them around to get different results. I have used it on myself and friends with great results."
