Not bad at all!
Date:May 4, 2012
Pros: lifts black dyed hair
Cons: some spots darker/lighter, smells bad, not enough product in the box
"I have my hair dyed black and have decided to give this product a try. In my previous experiences, my hair usually turns red after bleaching my black dyed hair. After I used this product, my hair turned light brown! I was surprised! This product went past my expectations, i would highly recommend it. The only bad thing about it is that there are some spots darker/lighter than others and the there's not much product available in the box, those with longer hair may be required to get 2-3 boxes for the entire hair. other than that, it's a pretty good product for removing dyed hair colors."

it's bleach
Date:April 2, 2012
Cons: it's bleach!, spotty, burns
"this is, plain and simple, is hair bleach. why not just call it that? you might fool youself into thinking that using this product is better than bleaching our your color. but this product looks like bleach, smells like bleach, burns like bleach, and bleaches you hair. therefore, it's bleach. the color removal was spotty-worked great in some spots and barely removed anything in others. my hair felt fried after i used it. go with colorfix instead."

Good Product
Date:March 29, 2012
"Ladies, if you do your hair at home and you use this product, it will work to remove hair dye. However, if you dye your hair often then your hair is very porous. It is necessary to use a pre-color treatment after removing the color and before dying so that the new color will take effect. Don't blame the product, do your research and get a filler for porous hair before you dye otherwise, you will not be happy."

"I was worried after reading the few bad reviews, I am glade I followed the good reviews. I also did what the directions. The black in my hair from a bad coloring was removed. It took an hour to get rid of the black. The smell was better then the hair color. Wish hair color smelled like colorzap or better. Thank you Sally's Beauty Supply for recommending this product. Now I can be a red head again. ;-)"

It works just fine
Date:February 18, 2012
"I'm a little surprised at some of these negative reviews. The product does exactly what it claims, and it even warns you in the instructions (several times) that you hair will not be restored to its natural color, and that it will be red/orange/gold, and does not recommend it for those trying to go to blonde. It simply strips out the old dye and reveals whatever the peroxide from previous dye jobs has done to your hair.
My hair has been dyed dark brown for years, but I'm doing an ombre effect so I wanted to strip the nearly black dye from the ends of my hair so I can dye them medium brown. It did not smell that bad (smells the same as most hair dye), and I didn't even need to leave it on for the full hour. After about 40 mins, my hair was a light coppery orange. I washed it out, dried my hair, and immediately dyed it with the medium brown. Worked great... orange was completely covered. My hair is a little dried out from the process, but it doesn't seem to be permanently damaged."

HORRIBLE
Date:February 3, 2012
"I have dark red hair (dyed of course) and I decided I wanted to go lighter. This product turned my roots a bright orange and the rest of my hair is now a very bright red. The package said be ready to color instantly. The new color could not even cover the damage. I am EXTREMELY disappointed."

i look like a fox
Date:December 28, 2011
Pros: apsolutley nothing
Cons: horrid smell, horrible results
"NEVERRR! and i mean never purchase this product. i had dark black hair. and i wanted it out so i could dye it dirty blonde . as my natural hair is. and i didn't think to read the reviews before hand and i just bought it. biggest mistake of my life. it smelled SO bad. i might as well have used bleach. it was just nasty. half way through i had to open the window and sit down because i was feeling so faint. worst thing ever. and it dryed out my hair AS i was puting in it. i ended up with bright orange stripes in my hair. and the back half was just rediculous oompa loompa orange. INSANITY. it left a stripe on the back that made me look like a fox. i put on a hood. and went to the drug store after to purchase the dirty blonde dye. on the box it says ready for imidiate re dying. so i was the idiot who believed it. and i bought a foam dye in the shade that i wanted. i dyed my hair, and the orange didn't budge. it just barley darkened a little bit. it ended up looking like bad highlights. so i just ended up dying my hair dark brown again. truly disappointed. never ever buy this."

It's Decent
Date:October 15, 2011
Pros: removes color fast
Cons: dried out, not enough in one package, splits ends
"I used this to remove black and brown colors from my hair, and it did remove the color VERY fast, but I ended up only being able to remove spots. If you were to get it, I would definitley get 2 bottles for chin - shoulder length hair, and 3 or more for long hair. I would much rather color oops or just plain bleach. Also, it dried out quickly."

Fries Hair
Date:August 18, 2011
Pros: lightens hair
Cons: not enough product given, messy, very damaging to hair
"This stuff might has well been low quality bleach. I used it on my dyed blonde hair that was a little too ashen. I only had to add water to the blue powder. I have hair only to my shoulders and this bottle was not enough at all so I ended up missing spots, having go back to sally's and get another bottle. I should have gotten something else but bought the same stuff as I was afraid of achieving a different result if I got something else. So at the end of this my hair was lighter, brassy, but super dry and brittle. The only good this about this product was that my hair did not redarken afterwards which does happen sometimes with the color oops stuff."

Horrible!
Date:August 4, 2011
Pros: none.
Cons: everything
"I have some black that i wanted to get rid of so I thought I would try this product. For black the box said leave in hair for 40 - 50 minutes or so and I did. Before even washing it I saw the damage it had done, not only did it not remove the black it made my hair patching and uneven. The some blonde I have in my hair it turned white almost, then rest of the damage I saw after washing it out and drying it. My hair is now fried from the treatment, and now I have to dye my whole head to make it all even.. even that didnt work.."

Didn't work
Date:July 12, 2011
Cons: dries out hair, doesn't remove color evenly
"Sally was sold out of ColorFix, so I bought Color Zap instead. It's a blue powder that you mix with developer, which makes me think it is a bleach & I can't find anywhere on the box that states it's not. I have shoulder length, thin hair and one box did not cover my entire head. It's very runny and it was hard to cover my hair with it because it made my hair feel so dry. I've been dying my hair a really dark brown which has turned black in some spots, so I wanted to remove it. The instructions state the process will take an hour. I put on a plastic cap, hoping it would speed up the lightening process but it didn't. An hour and a half later, my hair has turned a bright, light colored red with a few blonde colored streaks. I decided this would have to be good enough & rinsed it out. I shampooed per the instructions & then used Ion deep conditioner. My hair feels like straw. It is very bad, ColorFix left my hair feeling soft. I would leave it this color except I have some brown patches on my hair still! I am afraid to immediately color my hair, so I'm holding off until tomorrow...thank goodness we aren't going anywhere tonight!"

Good Product, buy multiple boxes.
Date:July 11, 2011
Pros: lightens black, no hair damage
Cons: small amount per box, runny
"The product worked well, I had my hair dyed black about 3 months ago, and after using two boxes of this product it lifted the color several layers. I suggest buying multiple boxes, as two was enough for my medium long length hair with shaven sides. It was a bit runny, but effective, and didn't smell more than hair bleach, or any other hair product. Would suggest to others."

Don't do it
Posted August 29, 2011
Basically this is BLEACH. I have medium brown hair and I had build up so it looked dark brown. In 20 minutes my hair was light red orange. I have thick/coarse hair and it fried my ends. My hair is forgiving of many things, but not this product. Don't do it.

Disappointed
Date:July 3, 2011
Pros: none
Cons: product is to thin to apply evenly
"I have tar black hair from using Dark brown color for year of coloring. I am salt and pepper now and wanted to lighten up to brown in hopes to eventually go silver. I really wanted Color Fix but sally's was out when I went to buy it so they said ColorZap would work the same. So I tried it . It is not the same produce at all! Color Zap was way too watery and because of that applying the product evenly was impossible. So I had uneven removal with blotchy spots. I wish I would have waited for Color Fix !!!"

Pleased with Results
Date:July 1, 2011
"I would say that I definitely got my money out of this product. My hair has been over-processed and abused for quite some time now. I have been dyeing my hair for over 13 years now and I have been mostly every normal shade under the rainbow (no crazy pink or blue - not cute enough for all that...). I decided about a year and a half ago that I would go black because I thought it would be easier. OMG was I wrong....I have had to dye my hair literally every 3 to 4 weeks and waiting a month was too long....I thought my roots wouldn't show as bad - again OMG was I wrong...just FYI for anybody who is thinking about going black - think about it REALLY REALLY HARD. I loved the color on me but the upkeep became a real pain. So anyway...back to the color zap. First of all - you must be very very careful not to get it on the new growth...please please please keep that in mind. Second - it was so much easier to use with a plastic bowl and brush (my hubby applied it with a paint brush- no kidding - I thought I had salon one and after I had mixed the product up, guess what, no brush...so we used what we had). Now, from everything I read about it and I mean I read for days, I expected my hair to be really light orange all over with some reds and various other colors mixed in. Well, it was extremely light at the roots (we avoided the new growth but the color I used before hand did not take well on my hair at all b/c sallys was out of what I normally buy and I was one week 4 of new growth) but the ends did not lighten up as much. I didn't panic, ok well I did for a minute, but then got over myself. The final result from dyeing over with a light ash brown (the age beautiful collection is the most fabulous hair color I have ever ever used) is mostly even. If I would have taken into account that my ends would not have lightened as much I would have picked up a medium ash brown and then maybe a red reducer (in my natural brown color - from what I remember of it - there was alot of red undertones in it anyway) to tone down a little more of the red that was from the color zap, but hey I think that for the price I paid (I had to get two boxes, my hair is half way down my back, very fine, but thick and we used up every last drop...) I think that it was absolutely 100% worth it. A note about the condition it leaves your hair in...I have done alot of chemical processes to my hair and the damage, although there is damage there that wasn't there before, is not any worse that highlighting and a couple of good deep conditioners and hot oil treatments will smooth it out. I will probably wait about 4 weeks (maybe 6 if I am lucky!!) and see what color I am at then and redye (hopefully for one of the last times) with a little darker brown, but I am very pleased and would recommend with the realization that you probably won't have perfect results but results you can certainly live with. Good luck to you!!!"

It works!
Date:May 22, 2011
Pros: easy to use
Cons: stinky
"I have hair that is about 85% gray and I color it a dark ash brown. I used color zap because my ends were nearly black and my roots were a lighter shade of brown after coloring the last time. I followed the directions taking care not to apply the product to my roots and left it on for the recommended 50 - 60 minutes. My hair turned a crazy orange color just as the product claimed it would. After washing and drying my hair I colored it with Professional Feria Soft Dark Ash Brown. My hair is a lighter shade of brown just as the Color Zap instructions had promised and it the same color from root to tip. Hair felt brittle after color zap application but was fine after coloring and conditioning it. I am happy with the results!"

Got rid of the Goth
Date:May 18, 2011
Pros: didnt damage hair, smell wasnt bad, removed 6 years of black dye
Cons: if you have long hair use 2 boxes, itches a bit
"6 years of perm. black hair dye gone in an hour. Didnt damage hair at all, smell was tolerable. Was able to re-dye to a light golden brown same day. I have hair that falls below my middle back so I used 2 boxes and it was just enough. I am thrilled with the results. Had tried One and Only to , only to be frustrated and back in black. Color zap was great."

great product , not enough in bottle
Date:March 27, 2011
Pros: dosn't smell, takes it right off
Cons: not enough in the bottle, drips a lot
"Great product, I have very thick , shoulder length hair and I had to use 2 boxes for one stripping. It works very well if you lather it on, otherwise, yes it will be a waste of time ...I dyed it black and it came right off. It will leave your hair a little dry, but i reccomend using ion moisturizer solutions after"

Works as expected
Date:February 13, 2011
Pros: doesn't smell, cheap, works as expected
Cons: directions for test strand wastes a lot of product
"I was using colorzap to remove dark brown/black from my naturally dark blonde hair (Hoping to go back blonde). It brought my hair to the orangy/red that is stated on the box. So it did work as expected. I wouldn't recommend this to someone trying to go from black to a blonde though. I used the colorzap, and then bleached and still have an orangy tone. I'm going to try to tone it out and hope it gets me to a dark blonde.
Also I did a test strand as recommended on the box, it ended up using half of the product when you probably only need 1/8 of it. If you are going to do a test strand I'd recommend cutting down the amount."
