Disappointed
Date:March 1, 2013
Cons: leaves patches, damages hair
"I've used this product many times in the past with no problems, but this time it turned out horribly. I was trying to remove a few layers of dark brown/black to re-dye my hair a medium brown, but the color zap barely worked. It turned my roots bright platinum blonde, some of my length orange, but most of my length was left with a barely lifted dark, dark brown. I wouldn't mind the orange or blonde if it had been consistent, but the patchiness is something I take issue with.
Secondly, this product is pretty much bleach. It acts, damages, smells, and works like a low-quality bleach, so honestly you'd be better off buying bleach instead (it's cheaper anyway)- I'm using Ion powder lightener and 40 volume developer to fix the patches. Overall I am extremely unsatisfied and will not be buying this product again."

Great!
Date:February 23, 2013
Pros: no breakage, fast on black hair, does what it says
"i was afraid of mixed reviews on this product, but since i'am a fan of a lot of L'Oreal products and haven't been let down yet, it thought id give it a try, and boy am i happy with the results! it lightened my dyed black hair in about 20 minutes, smell wasn't as bad as people say it was, heck i didn't even smell it, application was easy, only wish it came with gloves and instructions in paper form, and it came out a orangey color so now i need to dye it chocolate brown! first time using a hair stripper and quite fond, and absolutely no breakage!"

Pretty good!
Date:July 29, 2012
Pros: works, not a strong smell but open the window, doesn't murder your hair
Cons: expensive
"I was super hesitant about using this product because of the mixed reviews, but, as far as I could tell, it worked pretty good for me.
I would 100% recommend conditioning A TON afterwards. I don't know what would happen if you don't, because I conditioned for three hours, using the Henna n' Placenta conditioner for extra damaged hair. My hair feels just like before. A little frizzy, but I can deal.
So, my hair turned a golden-orange-blonde. It's what the box says, so I'm upset with that.
I only had to use one package on my hair, which is medium thickness and shoulder-length. I bought two, just in case, but didn't need it! (yay). I think if your hair was any longer or any thicker, you would need it. For $15, though, I would have expected more.
Overall, a good experience! I would use this product again.
OH. Important: When I mixed up the contents, I let it sit for a bit because got distracted, so when I opened the spout it kinda exploded... I was able to catch all the product and put it in my hair but it gave me a good shock/laugh. :)"

Worked like a charm
Date:July 13, 2012
Pros: really washes out previous hair dye tint
Cons: horrible instructions, not enough in 1 bottle
"I was hesitant to try at first because other reviews said it would turn hair orange, but after futher research, hair color remover is supposed to turn hair orange/red, instead of restoring to natural hair color. Left it on for 50 mins, hair was bright orange. When I washed out the chemicals, i could see all the black dye tint come out, which was really good. Worked really well. Then i dyed my hair darn brown and the color really showed up. Will use this product every time i dye my hair now."

Did what it said it would do
Date:July 6, 2012
"I was scared to use this product after reading the reviews. I only used the powder mixed with water because I needed to remove unwanted tones after a dying fiasco. My hair is naturally dirty blond and I had dyed it a red that turned out pink. I then dyed it brown to tone down the pink. It looked ok but my hair fades fast and my roots were reddish and my ends were muddy. This product did exactly what the box said. It evened out the color to a ginger/copper color. My hair is somewhat damaged and I did have some breakage, but overall was ok with the results."

Well...
Date:June 15, 2012
Pros: removes color, comes out pretty evenly, doesn't smell too awful
Cons: absolutely will destroy your hair, expensive
"Yes, this product absolutely DOES remove the color from your hair. I have used this twice now, and obviously it worked the first time if I purchased it a second time. The problem? My hair is absolutely FRIED. And now I have no idea what to do about it. Yes, my hair that is now blonde is GORGEOUS in color, but it's breaking off left and right. Now, I could blame the bleaching that I did AFTER using this product, that's true. Why don't I? My hair was fried BEFORE I bleached it, from the stupid color remover. I would recommend this to a friend only because it WORKS. Otherwise, it's quite expensive, there's a small amount, and it destroys your hair. Now I have to spend MORE money for something to treat this damaged hair.
I would also like to add that if it came out spotty on your hair, you did not follow the directions! READ YOUR DIRECTIONS. It says to apply to dark areas first. This is because it works FAST on lighter areas. You would do the same with bleach."

Very disappointing product, but does remove color
Date:June 5, 2012
Pros: removes color
Cons: not enough product, bleaches natural hair, a bit damaging
"My hair is not particularly long but there is not nearly enough product to cover your entire head. I had to seriously dilute it with 30 volume developer halfway through to be able to fully spread it through my hair. I ended up with very spotty, uneven results because there just wasn't enough. I recommend getting 2-3 boxes if you use this, but in my opinion, you may as well just use bleach.. because that's basically what it is."

Not bad at all!
Date:May 4, 2012
Pros: lifts black dyed hair
Cons: some spots darker/lighter, smells bad, not enough product in the box
"I have my hair dyed black and have decided to give this product a try. In my previous experiences, my hair usually turns red after bleaching my black dyed hair. After I used this product, my hair turned light brown! I was surprised! This product went past my expectations, i would highly recommend it. The only bad thing about it is that there are some spots darker/lighter than others and the there's not much product available in the box, those with longer hair may be required to get 2-3 boxes for the entire hair. other than that, it's a pretty good product for removing dyed hair colors."

it's bleach
Date:April 2, 2012
Cons: it's bleach!, spotty, burns
"this is, plain and simple, is hair bleach. why not just call it that? you might fool youself into thinking that using this product is better than bleaching our your color. but this product looks like bleach, smells like bleach, burns like bleach, and bleaches you hair. therefore, it's bleach. the color removal was spotty-worked great in some spots and barely removed anything in others. my hair felt fried after i used it. go with colorfix instead."

Good Product
Date:March 29, 2012
"Ladies, if you do your hair at home and you use this product, it will work to remove hair dye. However, if you dye your hair often then your hair is very porous. It is necessary to use a pre-color treatment after removing the color and before dying so that the new color will take effect. Don't blame the product, do your research and get a filler for porous hair before you dye otherwise, you will not be happy."

"I was worried after reading the few bad reviews, I am glade I followed the good reviews. I also did what the directions. The black in my hair from a bad coloring was removed. It took an hour to get rid of the black. The smell was better then the hair color. Wish hair color smelled like colorzap or better. Thank you Sally's Beauty Supply for recommending this product. Now I can be a red head again. ;-)"

It works just fine
Date:February 18, 2012
"I'm a little surprised at some of these negative reviews. The product does exactly what it claims, and it even warns you in the instructions (several times) that you hair will not be restored to its natural color, and that it will be red/orange/gold, and does not recommend it for those trying to go to blonde. It simply strips out the old dye and reveals whatever the peroxide from previous dye jobs has done to your hair.
My hair has been dyed dark brown for years, but I'm doing an ombre effect so I wanted to strip the nearly black dye from the ends of my hair so I can dye them medium brown. It did not smell that bad (smells the same as most hair dye), and I didn't even need to leave it on for the full hour. After about 40 mins, my hair was a light coppery orange. I washed it out, dried my hair, and immediately dyed it with the medium brown. Worked great... orange was completely covered. My hair is a little dried out from the process, but it doesn't seem to be permanently damaged."

HORRIBLE
Date:February 3, 2012
"I have dark red hair (dyed of course) and I decided I wanted to go lighter. This product turned my roots a bright orange and the rest of my hair is now a very bright red. The package said be ready to color instantly. The new color could not even cover the damage. I am EXTREMELY disappointed."

i look like a fox
Date:December 28, 2011
Pros: apsolutley nothing
Cons: horrid smell, horrible results
"NEVERRR! and i mean never purchase this product. i had dark black hair. and i wanted it out so i could dye it dirty blonde . as my natural hair is. and i didn't think to read the reviews before hand and i just bought it. biggest mistake of my life. it smelled SO bad. i might as well have used bleach. it was just nasty. half way through i had to open the window and sit down because i was feeling so faint. worst thing ever. and it dryed out my hair AS i was puting in it. i ended up with bright orange stripes in my hair. and the back half was just rediculous oompa loompa orange. INSANITY. it left a stripe on the back that made me look like a fox. i put on a hood. and went to the drug store after to purchase the dirty blonde dye. on the box it says ready for imidiate re dying. so i was the idiot who believed it. and i bought a foam dye in the shade that i wanted. i dyed my hair, and the orange didn't budge. it just barley darkened a little bit. it ended up looking like bad highlights. so i just ended up dying my hair dark brown again. truly disappointed. never ever buy this."

It's Decent
Date:October 15, 2011
Pros: removes color fast
Cons: dried out, not enough in one package, splits ends
"I used this to remove black and brown colors from my hair, and it did remove the color VERY fast, but I ended up only being able to remove spots. If you were to get it, I would definitley get 2 bottles for chin - shoulder length hair, and 3 or more for long hair. I would much rather color oops or just plain bleach. Also, it dried out quickly."

Fries Hair
Date:August 18, 2011
Pros: lightens hair
Cons: not enough product given, messy, very damaging to hair
"This stuff might has well been low quality bleach. I used it on my dyed blonde hair that was a little too ashen. I only had to add water to the blue powder. I have hair only to my shoulders and this bottle was not enough at all so I ended up missing spots, having go back to sally's and get another bottle. I should have gotten something else but bought the same stuff as I was afraid of achieving a different result if I got something else. So at the end of this my hair was lighter, brassy, but super dry and brittle. The only good this about this product was that my hair did not redarken afterwards which does happen sometimes with the color oops stuff."

Horrible!
Date:August 4, 2011
Pros: none.
Cons: everything
"I have some black that i wanted to get rid of so I thought I would try this product. For black the box said leave in hair for 40 - 50 minutes or so and I did. Before even washing it I saw the damage it had done, not only did it not remove the black it made my hair patching and uneven. The some blonde I have in my hair it turned white almost, then rest of the damage I saw after washing it out and drying it. My hair is now fried from the treatment, and now I have to dye my whole head to make it all even.. even that didnt work.."

Didn't work
Date:July 12, 2011
Cons: dries out hair, doesn't remove color evenly
"Sally was sold out of ColorFix, so I bought Color Zap instead. It's a blue powder that you mix with developer, which makes me think it is a bleach & I can't find anywhere on the box that states it's not. I have shoulder length, thin hair and one box did not cover my entire head. It's very runny and it was hard to cover my hair with it because it made my hair feel so dry. I've been dying my hair a really dark brown which has turned black in some spots, so I wanted to remove it. The instructions state the process will take an hour. I put on a plastic cap, hoping it would speed up the lightening process but it didn't. An hour and a half later, my hair has turned a bright, light colored red with a few blonde colored streaks. I decided this would have to be good enough & rinsed it out. I shampooed per the instructions & then used Ion deep conditioner. My hair feels like straw. It is very bad, ColorFix left my hair feeling soft. I would leave it this color except I have some brown patches on my hair still! I am afraid to immediately color my hair, so I'm holding off until tomorrow...thank goodness we aren't going anywhere tonight!"

Good Product, buy multiple boxes.
Date:July 11, 2011
Pros: lightens black, no hair damage
Cons: small amount per box, runny
"The product worked well, I had my hair dyed black about 3 months ago, and after using two boxes of this product it lifted the color several layers. I suggest buying multiple boxes, as two was enough for my medium long length hair with shaven sides. It was a bit runny, but effective, and didn't smell more than hair bleach, or any other hair product. Would suggest to others."

Basically this is BLEACH. I have medium brown hair and I had build up so it looked dark brown. In 20 minutes my hair was light red orange. I have thick/coarse hair and it fried my ends. My hair is forgiving of many things, but not this product. Don't do it.

Disappointed
Date:July 3, 2011
Pros: none
Cons: product is to thin to apply evenly
"I have tar black hair from using Dark brown color for year of coloring. I am salt and pepper now and wanted to lighten up to brown in hopes to eventually go silver. I really wanted Color Fix but sally's was out when I went to buy it so they said ColorZap would work the same. So I tried it . It is not the same produce at all! Color Zap was way too watery and because of that applying the product evenly was impossible. So I had uneven removal with blotchy spots. I wish I would have waited for Color Fix !!!"
