LOVE metalex. faded old demi-perm dye.
Date:June 8, 2009
Pros: fades old hair dye, doesn't damage hair, easy to wash out (even though it's oil), leaves hair shiny & healthy, removes build-up
Cons: doesn't smell great, very sticky makes it a little hard to apply, have to wash hair twice to get it all out
"i had been trying to fade my very dark (level 3) demi-permanent dye for quite some time. i was hesitant to use color removers such as color fix because i didn't want to damage my hair.
so i finally caved and bought some clairol metalex, which i applied to my dry hair, let sit for 30 minutes under a plastic cap (no heat), then rinsed.
i literally watched eight-week-old dye wash down the drain. the water that came out of my hair was light brown!!!!
afterwards, i shampooed w/a chelating shampoo and followed w/a deep conditioner.
my hair is slightly longer than shoulder length, very fine but i have a LOT of it. i got 4 very thorough applications of metalex from this bottle.
every time i used the metalex, i saw light brown water wash out of my hair. my hair got slightly lighter each time i used it.
the metalex bottle says that to remove really stubborn old dye, to mix the metalex w/20 volume developer. i did NOT try this method; i applied it undiluted.
**if you are looking for a super quick dye stripping fix, this is NOT the best option! and i'm not sure if it'll work on permanent dye. if you are looking to remove semi or demi color gradually and gently, this is the PERFECT product!"
